Why Shred? Where should We Start?
It's the Law
- State Laws: The Georgia Information Privacy Act requires that all documents containing private personal information (i.e. medical documents, legal documents, etc.) be shredded prior to disposal, thus protecting the absolute privacy of the individual.
- Federal Laws: In addition, federal laws such as FACTA (Credit Report Information), HIPAA (Healthcare), and Gramm-Leach-Bliley (Financial) all mandate shredding as a safeguard of privacy.
It's Safer
You can't steal information from a document which exists only as a bunch of shards of paper. Shredding provides the ultimate protection from identity theft, fraud, and other criminal actions.
It's Green
Your destroyed documents contribute to the earth's well-being--after being shredded, your paper is whisked away to Kimberly Clark, where it ultimately becomes toilet paper, saving trees in your beautiful forest. |
